NSW Country Eagles Playing Squad Announcement

A talented squad of 37 players has been picked to lead the NSW Country Eagles towards NRC glory for the 2016 season. CEO of the Eagles Peter Playford said this week that “The squad comprises of predominantly the 3 affiliated clubs in Easts, Randwick and Sydney Uni, it is a good mixture of youth and experience with lots of current and future super rugby players on display.” His comments are justified by the 10 Waratahs, 1 Brumby and 4 Australian representatives that head up a squad that also sees the return of 6 Eagles from last season.

Andrew Kellaway, Reece Robinson and David Horwitz will come into NRC V3.0 with strong Waratahs campaigns behind them, bolstering what will be an attacking, expansive backline. We also welcome back Sam Figg, fresh off his time with the Australian Sevens team that finished 8th at the Rio Olympic games. The Eagles have also secured the signature of exciting young talent Kyle Godwin from the Brumbies. Plagued by injuries over the past two seasons, the 24 year old inside back has been capped 52 times by the Western Force, and we look forward to seeing him in the orange and black this season.

The 2016 edition of NRC V3.0 for the Eagles comes with it a greater emphasis and effort to connect with the country. Players like Ned Hanigan, Charlie Clifton, Paddy Ryan and Tom Robertson are just a handful of the many players in our squad with meaningful links to the country. They have spoken of their excitement at playing games in Tamworth and Orange, regional centres of rugby in the country, and this year, those games will be bigger and better than anything we have done before. With training for the NSW Country Eagles beginning today, Playford has said that he was looking forward to see how this largely new look squad would perform in what promises to be the most competitive competition yet.

“We are really excited with the squad we have put together, Darren and the coaching staff have done a great job and all of us are really looking forward to that first game in less than 2 weeks at Sydney University” Tickets for our Round One clash against defending champions Brisbane City at Sydney University oval go on sale this week; stay up to date with our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for more news.
