Head coach Darren Coleman has made 3 changes to the side that defeated defending champions Brisbane City for Sunday’s round 2 fixture against the UC Vikings, who are coming off an equally impressive 58-20 win over Queensland country.

Our scrum is bolstered by the return of captain Paddy Ryan, and Tom Robertson who will partner with round 1 man of the match Tolu Latu to form an all Waratah front row; while sevens star Sam Figg makes his starting debut at blindside flanker after an impressive showing off the bench against City. Coleman has stuck with the same backline that showed immense potential at Sydney University last Saturday.

Young flyhalf Andrew Deegan discussed the Eagles defensive efforts against the defending champions from the last two seasons in round 1. Speaking on the Rugby.com.au podcast, Deegan praised the forward pack for their immense “defensive pressure,” and how it meant “our backs had front foot ball and the opportunity to attack out wide.” Speaking on this weekend’s clash with the red hot Vikings side, Deegan acknowledged the significance of the clash. “They’re a very strong outfit. We are both sides who know we have the potential to play deep into the finals this year. To that end, we need to stick to our game plan on Sunday and improve on areas we were a bit weaker in against Brisbane City.”

The match kicks off at 3pm on this Sunday in what is set to be a blockbuster fixture at Viking Park.
